Chilly weather and sight showers welcomed in the Opening LEGS event of 2015 at The London Club but it didn't dampen the enthusiasm or enjoyment of those who took part. The course was in fantastic condition and provided a challenging test for some. On the positive side, the day was quieter than normal with both Mark Bignell and Nigel Halliwell having been banished to the other side of the world for a few weeks (though the former could still be heard in the distance!).
The honours for these went to Matt Hooper for the Front 9 and Spencer Williams for the Back 9.
Prizes for the Nearest the Pins went to Ian Bowden, Tony Bowyer, Donald Allan and Matt Hooper.
In the Matchplay competition, there were wins for Ian Bowden, Spencer Williams, James Clare, Terry Portway and Donald Allen.
Special mentions for an excellent bunker shot by Gretchen Jones (see the before and after photos below) and to Jack 'two dinners' Capstick for polishing off his own dinner as well as Ian Bowden's, albeit he whimped out on two puddings!
In other news, at the end of a challenging day, The London Club was the proud owner of a number of Donald Allen's Black, Red and Multi-coloured balls - the image here shows Donald taking a rare shot away from the water...
Lastly, James Clare had a slight navigation problem on the 14th 'nearest the pin' hole, having hit a cracker of a shot that would have been a winning shot... sadly he should've he should have been playing the 12th - as evidenced by the image here of him running back from the 14th and the group in front arriving at the tee!
The day was a great start to the 2015 season!
